To teach Torah is to teach respect and appreciation for the handiwork of God.  The earth is brimming with the miracles of God's craft and a Torah-aware person is one who is able to express that gratitude in the language and structures that have been held sacred by our people for centuries.  Torah knowledge also creates a sense of responsibility which moves us to act as God's agents, protecting the vulnerable, comforting the sick, and befriending the lonely.  A Torah knowledge that is strictly book knowledge is no knowledge at all.  As Shimon ben Gamliel taught--"It is not talking Torah, but doing Torah which is critical" (Pirkei Avot 1:17).  We strive to become better students of Torah so that we will become better doers of Torah.
