Zoom (Woodbury Jewish Center)
Woodbury Jewish Center in partnership with MJC, Mid-Island Y JCC, Temple Beth Torah, and Hofstra Hillel present a Kristallnacht Book Talk: The Upstander, by Jori Epstein.
Years after forming a relationship on the March of the Living, USA Today NFL reporter Jori Epstein and Holocaust survivor Max Glauben penned Glauben’s story of survival and mission to educate in their book, “Upstander.” Max will speak about his teenage years as a ghetto smuggler, and the skills and inner grit that enabled him survive six concentration camps. He will also describe how he transformed his personal trauma into a mission of preserving memory and influencing others to embrace tolerance. Together, Glauben and Epstein will elaborate on what it was like to co-author the book, and why the project has been so meaningful. The book talk will be followed by Q&A. This event will bring members of MJC together with Woodbury Jewish Center and other community partners to commemorate Kristallnacht.

ZOOM ROOM
The Daf Shevu’i class has been meeting for a few years and is wide-open to new members. We do one page of Talmud a week. Sound slow? Only to those who may have never opened a page of Talmud. The page or daf is pretty dense. We are studying Avodah Zarah, meaning idolatry, and deals with the issues that keep the Jewish people from falling into the trap of false values, goals and aspirations. These are fascinating ideas that inspire spirited conversation, week after week. Contact Rabbi Rank (rafirank@mjc.org) for further information about joining
